Scanner presets

All 51 ready-made scans, grouped by trading style, with the exact rules each one uses. Learn how to pick one, search for one, and save your own.

A preset is a saved set of rules that turns the whole market into a short list. Top Gainers is free on every account. Pro adds all the rest. This page lists every scan and the rules behind it, so you can pick the one that matches how you trade.

How to pick a scan

  1. Click the scan name at the top of a panel, for example TOP_GAINERS.
  2. Scroll the list. The groups are Momentum & Gappers, Bearish & Shorts, Volume-Based, Price Action & Technicals, Market Cap Specific, Specialty Scanners, Swing (Pro) and Technical + Fundamentals (Pro).
  3. Click a scan. The panel switches at once and the hit count updates.
  4. With a panel focused, press ] for the next scan or [ for the previous one.
  5. On a phone, tap More at the end of the scan tabs to open All Presets.

On a Free account, scans other than Top Gainers show a lock and the note Free preview.

How to find a scan by typing (phone)

  1. Tap More, then click the search box.
  2. Type a word such as *bullish*, *gap down*, *low float* or *cheap*. Words like *bullish*, *bearish*, *long*, *short* and *gappers* match scans by intent, not only by name.
  3. Tap a scan to load it into the active tab.

How to save your own scan

  1. Click List, then Advanced filters. Set the boxes you want.
  2. Type a name into Scan name and click Save.
  3. Open the scan list again. Your scan sits at the top under MY SCANS. Click the X beside it to delete it.
  4. Saved scans sync to your account when you are logged in.

Another way is the Custom Scanner panel, added from the Add menu. It has a filter builder, a box that reads a sentence such as *US stocks below $5 above $1, rvol 200%, float below 15M*, and a Saved Scanners list. Plain-English input is a Pro feature.

What each scan looks for

Every scan below also needs a price of at least $1, except Penny Stock Movers and Sub-$1 Runners. "Gap" means the move from yesterday's close. RVOL is volume compared with normal for the time of day.

Swing

Daily-timeframe screens for swings and position trades. Every one needs a price of at least $1, like the scans above.

ScanRules
Swing Trend LeadersWithin 10% of the 52-week high, RVOL 1.5 or more
Swing Pullback EntriesWithin 15% of the 52-week high, 14-day RSI between 35 and 65
Swing Deep Pullbacks25% or more off the 52-week high, up 1% or more on RVOL 2 or more
Swing Large-Cap TrendMarket cap over $10 billion, within 15% of the 52-week high, RVOL 1 or more

The two RSI-14 rows read the 100 most-active names in each rebuild; a quieter stock carries no RSI on its row and will not match. The scanner universe is movers-based (roughly the 500 most-active symbols), so these screens surface active swing setups near their highs, not the full market.

Technical + Fundamentals

A technical setup with a fundamental filter attached, from SEC filings data refreshed daily. Fundamental fields cover roughly the 100 most-active tickers, so a name outside that set carries no values and will not match.

ScanRules
Growth Near 52w HighWithin 5% of the 52-week high, revenue growth over 10%, P/E under 50
Quality UptrendWithin 10% of the 52-week high, ROE over 15%, debt to equity under 2

A 52nd entry, Top Crypto Movers 24H, sits under Crypto (24/7) when it is switched on for your account. It ranks crypto by its 24-hour change and runs all day and on weekends.

How to read and add columns

  1. Click a column heading to sort. Click again to reverse.
  2. Click COLS in the panel header to tick optional columns: Catalyst, News, Bid / Ask, TYP PX dist %, ATR (14), HOD dist %, Vol spike 5m, Momentum 5m, RSI (14), Short Int %, Borrow Fee %, Squeeze Score and more.
  3. On a phone, tap the arrow on a card to see its volume, float and other stats.

TYP PX is the day's typical price, an average of high, low and last. It stands in for VWAP.

Institutional Flow, stated plainly

Institutional Flow is our honest version of what other platforms sell as a "dark pool signal". What it estimates: a stock trading several times its own normal volume while the price holds near the day's typical price can mean a large participant is working an order on the lit exchanges. The default scan shows names with RVOL 3 or more, at least 100,000 shares, and a price within 1% of the typical price. Save your own scan with a different RVOL floor to change the multiplier.

What it cannot see: dark pools. No retail feed carries real-time ATS prints, and this scan does not pretend to. It reads the lit tape only. On the chart, the INST FLOW toggle marks bars where the estimate fired: volume at 3 times its own 20-bar average or more, price inside one ATR of the session anchor, evaluated only on closed bars so a marker never moves or repaint. Tight-band hits mark strong, and a third hit inside a 30-bar window marks accumulated.

What the real data is: FINRA publishes actual weekly dark pool volume per ticker, on a delay. Every institutional-flow hit in the alert feed carries that number with a link to the ticker's dark pool page, and the newest published week is on the dark pool tracker. Those pages are the real weekly FINRA data. This scan is the estimate.

Good to know

  • Some columns, such as short interest and squeeze score, only have values for heavily shorted stocks.
  • Hover a symbol on a computer to see a quote card with volume, float, market cap, gap, sector and the latest headline.
  • Presets rank stocks. They do not tell you what to buy.

If something doesn't work

  • A scan shows very few rows: strict scans such as Pre-Market Runners often match a handful of stocks. Try Top Gainers or Unusual Volume.
  • A premarket scan is empty: those scans need premarket volume, so they fill after 4:00 AM ET.
  • You cannot delete a built-in scan: only scans under MY SCANS can be removed.
